| Fandom Journal poll |
[Jul. 23rd, 2008|10:47 pm] |
I'm having a poll over on my inksome journal. Please add your two cents? Please?
I want to make a new online journal which is fandom activity centric. It would be a community, where people get to vote on various topics.
I'm leaning towards posting it on Inksome for various reasons, most of all since I can create polls on here. People can answer using OpenID, or get an Inksome account, or post anonymously. However, LJ ad IJ have a wider range of fandom activity and community and might be less likely to play somewhere else.
Please don't comment here. Comment on the IS journal, thank you.
take the poll. |

| Question for the writers out there |
[May. 23rd, 2008|06:37 pm] |
(Crossposted to LJ, IJ, Inksome, ect...)
If you're so inclined, please point people to this post. I would love multiple outlooks on this.
I'm writing this... story... called Next to Godliness, which is essentially a big mythology crossover. Personally I call mythology public domain so I don't consider it fan fiction. Godfic, however, is fine by me.
Anyway, my question is this: If I post it in my LJ, or fictionpress or MM.Org, or WOWOI, would that hurt my chances of getting it published by a publisher? Or would it matter at all?
Please, if people have insider info on something like this, speak up! |

| Paid account is about to run out |
[Mar. 21st, 2008|12:58 pm] |
I have very little time left on my paid account, one or two days. I don't know what to do about this. The other day I made an insanejournal, but have yet to post in it. I don't want to leave and lose my friends list, and I don't want people to lose me. Also: Icons. Also: comment tracking. With a free account, it's limited to about 25 I think. On the other hand, I don't really wanna give LJ more money or have people give LJ money on my behalf. I dunno what to do. |

word number 20,000 is "Trying" On average I write 2000 words a day. The first word on page 100 is "Difficult" I am 28.6% complete. I'm also pretty sure I am gonna make my word count goal. I almost didn't write today, but I did. I also watched three episodes of Drawn Together and two episodes of Capitol Critters. I don't know how I do it. Nini |

Thanks a lot Dopp, really. Here I am, with a pleasently predictable playlist (Awesome allerteration ahoy!), and you just had to send me a new album full of fitting and inspiring songs. Now I'll never get to procrastinate! Fuck that noise!
BTW, Safe From Harm and Angel are the ones in question ...wait...WTF the HOUSE MD THEME?! Wait, that has WORDS?! |

So I have my little laptop now, but Vista is so fucking INFURIATING! How do I get rid of the verification thing?
See, when I want to log in to LJ or DA or Gmail, I type the passwords in, but then it asks me to register myself to the OS so that it can save passwords...or something.... |

duchess_webb, hellebore, kippurbird, reverie_shadow, rosehiptea, shexay_yasuda, trent_shard, sat.....HELP
I know most of you have kids, ranging in age between under 2 years, to in the double digits, the rest of you have writing experience. One of you is brutally honest with me. I was wondering you would be willing to take an evening with your kids and maybe read the manuscript of the children's book I drafted, as a sort of test audience?
I would email you the draft and you would email me back the thoughts of you and your kid (for the younger ones if it kept their interest even without pictures, for the older ones, if they enjoyed it, even though it's meant for 6-8 year olds...)
It's 1,600 words long, roughly and aimed for 6-8 year olds.
If you're interested, comment here with your email, even if I didn't mention you in the above shout out. |

| Novel update |
[Mar. 17th, 2008|12:20 am] |
Word number 666 is "of" 11,111 is "And".
Oh, I got a laptop. It's a tablet laptop. That means I can swivvle the screen, fold it down and use a stylus to DRAW ON IT!!! It also has fingerprint ID and the touchpad is like a strainer! It's by HP, and I got a VERY good deal.
The only downside is that it has Vista.
It's name is Pendulum. It's my new writing laptop for my novels. Because I write, apparently.
I pick it up Wed.
Ok, questions...
Should one get an editor then look at publishers? Or do publishers supply editors? Also, I have two children's books in mind (ABC and A Girl Called Kermit) and two novels (Project C and Next to Godliness.) Should I look for publishers who do both? Or look into different publishers? Am I allowed to do that? |
|
|
| O....kay....? |
[Mar. 14th, 2008|03:57 pm] |
Ok, so you know that Project C that I've been prattling about for 3 days? Yeah, well, I just finished a manuscript that is NOT Project C.
It's for a children's book, which we'll call ABC.
Now, according to many publisher preferences, unless one is a professional illustrator, one should not submit pictures with one's manuscript. I am not a professional illustrator, but I have a specific art style in mind for ABC. I'd also be willing to do the art myself. I've friends with printing experience, have access to a high end poster printer, and have formatted art into poster printing quality. I would also not persume to tell the art director how to lay out ABC.
So, what do do? Should I prepare and send the illustrations with ABC or not?
Side note: ABC is not A Girl Called Kermit. I am not moving on AGCK. AGCK will be with my art, my typography and my layouts even if I have to self publish. I will have complete control over AGCK.
Concerning AGCK's status... I want a certain amount of knowledge behind me before I ready AGCK for printing. I want to know how to write for children, at this point it's too "and then this happened and then this happened then this", but then again, that's how I told the story when I was 6 so... Anyway, I want some professionalism, some credentials and ...let's face it... some clout, before producing AGCK. But I have not forgotten it, and it will be out there.
Fun fact: If we put all my planned publications together, I'm a god hating handicapped goth!!
Oh well, I'm off to play in Project C-verse. |

[Mar. 13th, 2008|04:18 pm] |
Please feel free to spread this around.
Ok, so I had an epiphany the other night: I'm meant to be a writer. I know, that either sounds very "Duh Q." or arrogant. Pick one.
To clear things up, what I mean is that I realized the following-
1. I have to stop relying on other people to work with. People are never committed to something as much as I am. They either have their own lives, own projects, or something else happens. So outsourcing never works. Thus, If I want something done right, I must do it myself. Even if it comes at a Price or compromise. Which leads me to points 2 and 3.
2. If I don't play in this world, no one will. That's not fair to the characters. Some of these guys have helped to keep me alive over the years, they deserve some sort of recognition for their trouble.
3. Charles Shultz said that to be a cartoonist you have to be pretty good at a lot of things. You have to be pretty good at art, at writing, ect. Sequential art is not my strong point. I am a pin up artist. I do character pieces. Maybe I'm an alright colourist. But visual storytelling is not my forte. No one wants to actually draw this project. Thus, while I can see it best as a comic, I have to sacrifice that thought for a more realistic compromise to get the story out at all.
4. I have so many stories in my head that I HAVE to get them out, or else I'll go crazy or they will die. Again, not fare. It's a waste.
5. I enjoy playing in the world(s). Particularly the one that I am focused on right now.
But three things concern me...
1. This project is not A Girl Called Kermit. AGCK should be my focus. AGCK is the thing that I feel would be my 'in'. It's versatile, serving as both a dark comicbook and a children's story. It's something I can trounce around at ComicCon and Chapters. It's all accessable.
2. Between this project (Which we'll call Project C) and Next to Godliness, it might look like I have a problem with organized religion. Let me just say that I am agnostic. I don't not believe in God or some higher power, I would just like some conclusive evidence before I put my faith into it. I do believe things happen for a reason though. Between AGCK and Project C, I'm sure everything happens for a reason.
3. I've never really done this before. I've always had stories and characters, but most of it has been shoved over to Fanfic. This is original fiction which requires research. So far, I've looked up things from the Rapture, to the distance between Vancouver and Seattle, to the fall of mans dependency of crude oil to the evolution of bats. It's little things like that. I've looked up how long a novel should ideally be.
So here's what I ask of you, the reader: Help?
Is there a little thing like those NaNo counters which can tell me the percentage of how much I have written? What sort of word processors would you recommend? What about editors or publishing houses? How long does a novel take to write on average (I'm guessing 2 years). Vanity publishing? How does one get a book to be picked up by a publisher? How does one get an agent or editor? What if you have a stylistic habit of writing in fragmented sentences? What if you don't use to tabs or indents? How do you not sound arrogant, but rather confident? Do I layout the pages? Italics? Chapter breaks? Do I start a new page for a new chapter? How much is a reasonable pay for a first novel? How much a word? (Shut up, L. Ron Hubbard.) Have you ever published a novel? What would you do differently? How much should you write in a day? Is writing with music a good idea? Anything else?
I'm new, I'm an outsider. I'm fresh meat and I just want to be pointed in the right direction.
Thanks in advance. |

| I'm here |
[Mar. 12th, 2008|10:11 pm] |
I'm alive.
*Belch*
I have abrasions on my leg, foot and arms and as such cannot walk. In other news...I must pee.
In other other news, I'm writing. I have ideas and I am really jazzed and gonna write. Project C (AKA the secret Project) has undergone a transformation and I have finally decided that I need to stop relying on people. I have to rely on my own skills. Thus, Project C will be an illustrated novel. Possibly in three parts.
I had an epiphany that I already knew: I need to write. I have so many stories in my head that I am meant to get them out. I have to do this on my own. I have to play in this world. If I don't, no one will, and that can't happen.
So yes, I am jazzed about Project C. I apologize to those who I thought might work on this project, But I simply cannot wait. The story needs to be told. Some of the beings in this world keep me alive and I owe them this much.
I'm going to play there now. |

On the 8th I had an MRI. Tues I get the results but on Fri. my dr. gave me the gist. Inflammation in my bowels and hip, scarring, narrowing/swelling and...fluid.
Can we say hospital? I know that we can!

| Fanfic: Dethtogether - A Metalocalypse/Drawn Together crossover |
[Feb. 26th, 2008|05:49 pm] |
Title: Dethtogether - a Metalocalypse/Drawn Together fanfic Rating: Mature Fandoms: Metalocalypse/Drawn Together Wordcount: Over 3100 Pairings: Too many to mention. Besides, that would ruin the surprises. Warnings: Mature content, swearing, racism, homosexuality, crude humor, bad stuff. Notes: *White flash!* means scene change. It's a gimmick used in Drawn Together. DISCLAIMER: I do not own these characters. I don't want to own them. Honestly this fic is sort of born from wank, but it sort of blossomed into something more. Also, some of the views shown in this fic do not reflect my own. This was me trying to remain in character. So please, don't yell at me. (Except for my thoughts on Dethklok yaoi. I showed you them.) ( Read more... )
I'm sorry. |

| Letter meme |
[Feb. 25th, 2008|10:13 pm] |
You post in the comments, and I give you a letter of the alphabet, and in your LJ you list 10 things you like that start with that letter. And thus the meme is propogated and stuff.
rosehiptea gave me Q, of course.
1. Quagmire. I like the word. I don't much care for the Family guy character. 2. Quaff. It's the only way to drink. 3. Q. My favorite Star Trek character. No, that has no barring on my nick name. 4. Qatar is cool because it's a "Q" word without a "U". 5. Quatro is 4. 6. Queensryche is an ok band. I don't like them much any more. But the song Lady Jane is good. 7. Q can actually be quite quiet. 8. Quixotic is my favorite LJ mood. 9. Queen's best song is ...eh...Bohemian Rhapsody. 10. I'm the letter Q. |
